QotD: Education, Occupation

What was your major or field of study in college? Did you wind up working in that field or using that degree? If not, what field have you wound up in?
Submitted by sneuf

I studied Computer Engineering in Finland, and did work in that field for a while.  However, almost 5 years after graduation from college I took the option of studying a masters in International Business, so now I've ended up in e-marketing, and of course have no idea what will come next in my career progression.

That's the whole point, isn't it?  A degree (especially at the bachelor level) doesn't guarantee employment, as it only shows that the holder has proven his/her ability to learn.

QotD: World’s Best Beer

What is the best beer on planet Earth?
Submitted by Remmy Van Hornie.

The one you prefer.  My posts on beer can give a better idea on my preferences.

If you want a quick summary on my suggestions for Belgian beer, they would be the following:

  • If you like dark ales, nothing I've tasted beats Chimay Brune.
  • If you're more into clearer brews, I'd say Brigand Blonde is quite good (but you'll probably find Leffe Blonde or Duvel more easily).
  • If you would like to taste fruity beers, Special St. Louis Kriek or Timmermans Kriek are quite nice.
  • On the other hand, if the taste of Brussels is what you have in mind, Timmermans Gueuze Lambic is what you seek.
  • And for white wheat beer, I still prefer Hoegaarden.

QotD: [this is home]

Where do you consider home?  Is it the place you grew up; the place you're currently living?  Why is it home?
Submitted by uncagedbird

Home is not a place, it is wherever I come at the end of the day, where I live with my wife happily.  At different times it has been situated in Atizapán de Zaragoza, Helsinki, Espoo & Brussels, but the most important thing is that we're there happily.

QotD: Life Was Never The Same

Tell us about an event that changed your life forever.

I've discussed this before in this post.  Had I not dug from the discarded pile a business magazine where there was an interview with a person that was a friend of my dad, this person wouldn't have suggested to me some years later to go to study to Finland, so I wouldn't have landed the job I held for some years, I wouldn't have met a lot of people who are important for me and most importantly, I wouldn't have met my soon-to-be wife.

QotD: Extraterrestrial

I usually don't care very much about the QotD, but this is close to my heart so I will answer it.

Do you believe there is intelligent life on other planets?

Definitely.  I read this book when I was a small kid, and between that and other literature by Carl Sagan and Isaac Asimov I cannot help but be convinced by pure probability.

However, they may not be very close, as they seem to have not reached us just yet.  Or maybe they have, but are wiser than we are in their dealings with less advanced civilizations.
